Use these simple instructions to make dehydrated garlic and your own garlic pwder from your garden's bounty! Use it for backpacking and camping meals, in stews, sprinkled on salads and more!
For dehydrated garlic chips: Cut the garlic cloves into thin slices, about 1/8 thin.
For dehydrated minced garlic: Using a food processor or garlic chopping tool, mince the garlic but don't blend it into a paste.
Lay the garlic pieces onto silicone mats and place on your dehydrator trays.
Dehydrate at 115 degrees for 10-14 hours.
Test for doneness by checking if the garlic is crisp and brittle.
Cool and store in an airtight container after conditioning.
Homemade Garlic Powder
Using a spice grinder, blend 1 cup of dried garlic chips, 1/2 cup at a time.
Blend until a fine powder is made.
Sift through a fine mesh sieve to remove larger hard bits of garlic
Condition the powder and then store in an airtight container with a silica packet.

FOR DEHYDRATING IN AN OVEN:Preheat your oven to its lowest setting (140-175)Spread out the garlic in an even thin layer on a piece of parchment paper lining a sheet pan.Bake for 2-3 hours, checking and stirring every 30 minutes until they are completely dry. They may dry sooner if your oven runs hot.
